Contact-free car selling with Motorway

The following guide to contact-free car selling with Motorway is accurate as of 1st July 2021. It will be updated regularly.

Customer safety is our priority during the coronavirus pandemic. For your peace of mind when selling your car on Motorway, all our car buying partners follow government social distancing guidelines to ensure that car collections and drop-offs can be carried out in a contact-free manner.

As well as agreeing to follow government guidelines, all car buying partners who work with us have also agreed to follow a number of further steps to ensure a safe transaction and to minimise the spread of coronavirus.

These steps are slightly different for home collection (where the buyer collects your vehicle from a home or work address), and for drop-off situations (where you are required to drive to drop the vehicle off at retail premises to complete the transaction).

Please see below for full information regarding the steps our car buying partners are expected to follow on the day of sale. We also detail what we ask of you, the seller, with regards to preparing your car in advance to ensure it is sanitised and free of coronavirus.

Home collection

  • Any collection carried out from your home or work address will be done in a way that is compliant with government guidelines related to social distancing at the time of collection.
  • When approaching the point of collection, we have asked that car buying representatives wear protective clothing including, but not limited to, protective masks and gloves.
  • When inspecting the vehicle, the buying representative must remain two metres from the selling customer at all times.
  • Buying representatives must have resealable bags available to deal with the handling of V5C documentation, manuals, service history books, spare keys, and other items handed over.
  • Any documentation that requires a signature should be signed electronically or in a contact-free manner from a distance, if possible.
  • Payments are to be carried out via bank transfer only.

Dealership drop-off

  • Any vehicle drop-off, inspection, and payment carried out at a dealership, retail premises, or drop-off point will be done in a way that is compliant with governmental guidelines related to social distancing at the time of collection.
  • When talking to a buying representative at the point of handover or inspection, the representative must remain two metres from the selling customer at all times.
  • Buying representatives must have resealable bags available to deal with the handling of V5C documentation, manuals, service history books, spare keys, and other items handed over.
  • Any documentation that requires a signature will be signed for electronically or in a contact-free manner from a distance.
  • Payments are to be carried out via bank transfer only.

What we ask of you

  • Please clean and sanitise your car’s keys, door handles, steering wheels, gear sticks, petrol caps and any other touchpoints before the collection or drop-off with any of our buying partners. The buyer may also have their own sanitization requirements which may differ from this, they will let you know in advance if this is the case.
  • If you are dropping off the car yourself, you may also wish to wear protective gloves and a mask before entering retail premises. The buyer may also have their own safety requirements for a safe drop-off which may differ from this, they will let you know in advance if this is the case.
